A rewarding way to spend Spring Break
We are very grateful to the group of volunteers who joined us on March 13th, from Rollins College in Winter Park FL, for a day of painting. The students were participating in an ‘alternative spring break’ exchange with Eastern Michigan University, and volunteered with a number of local non profits while in the area.
In addition to painting two apartment units, the students met with Michael Appel and learned about Avalon Housing and our work. They also got a great lesson in painting the right way, as led by our volunteer painting supervisor for the day, Russ. We’re all better painters thank to his words of wisdom!
Our thanks also go to Dino, from Amana Construction, who provided us with advice, a few tools and - most importantly - an amazing homemade feast for lunch!
