Avalon Housing is very excited to announce a new partnership with Michigan Works! Southeast, which will help Avalon tenants and clients connect with employment resources and services in their communities.
Starting in January, Michigan Works! Southeast staff will visit Avalon sites to offer their expertise in employment support. These sessions will coincide with existing food pantry and community center hours, making it easy for participants to engage. Clients will able to:
- Obtain information about upcoming virtual workshops.
- Learn about local hiring needs of employers.
- Knowledge of upcoming hiring events.
- Receive assistance with identifying local employers based on the job seekers skill set and experience.
- Hands on resume support (for more one on one assistance with resume review or interview prep, the Career Advisor may schedule an in-person appointment at the local Michigan Works! office.)
“Helping people find meaningful work after leaving homelessness is an important part of Avalon’s mission, and fits perfectly into the system of supportive services that we’ve set up for tenants at our properties and clients we serve across the county,” said Avalon Housing Executive Director Aaron Cooper. “Once people’s lives are stabilized, finding employment is the next natural step.”
“Given the very important role employment plays in the journey of self-sustainability, working with Avalon only makes sense,” said Shamar Herron, Executive Director of Michigan Works! Southeast. “We are proud partners in this work and value how Avalon shows up in this space. Michigan Works! Southeast looks forward to this venture and is very appreciative for the opportunity to assist in all employment efforts.”
Under the partnership, Michigan Works! Southeast staff will visit four Avalon properties and two Ann Arbor Housing Commission properties at which Avalon provides services.
