WHY AVALON HOUSING?
Avalon is committed to creating the best employee experience we can for everyone on the team.
We cultivate an environment in which people have fun, grow and learn, and improve individual lives and our overall community daily. We also challenge one another to bring our whole selves to work.

MISSION AND VALUES-DRIVEN
Everyone at Avalon works towards the same goal, whether they’re directly serving clients or in an administrative role. We work as a cohesive team to end homelessness in our community. Our work is always guided by our values of Dignity, Self-Determination, Equity, Best Self, Community, Excellence and Well-Being.

Benefits

Avalon Housing offers a broad set of benefits to our staff.

Medical
All full-time employees are offered a choice of three different medical insurance plans (two HMO plans or a PPO), each one including dental, vision, and prescription coverage. Avalon shares in deductible costs on the HMO plans, so an employee’s personal annual deductible is capped at $1,000.

Our base HMO plan is available with no per-paycheck premium contribution, including two-person and family plans.

Paid Time Off
Avalon provides a robust set of paid time off for staff including three weeks of vacation time (increasing to four weeks on your fifth anniversary), plus additional sick and personal time allowances. There is also an extra paid holiday every month!

Life and Disability Plans
All staff working more than 16 hours per week are given Life insurance and Short- and Long-Term Disability plans, with Avalon covering the premium cost.

Voluntary Additional Plans
All staff working more than 16 hours per week also have access to additional life, critical illness, and accident insurance coverage. If these are taken during the initial enrollment, there are no medical questions asked, and employees cannot be denied coverage.

Flexible Spending Accounts
Full-time staff have the option to participate in a personal Flexible Spending Account, where they can have money taken pre-tax to be able to use on medical expenses. We also have a Dependent FSA, which can be used for child or adult care costs.

403(b) Retirement Plan
Avalon sponsors a 403(b) retirement plan through Vanguard, available to all employees.

Pet Insurance
Employees are eligible for discounted pet insurance through our arrangement with Nationwide Insurance.

Employee Support

Avalon Housing has partnered with Ulliance to provide a robust Employee Assistance Program. Ulliance offers support with trained counselors (available all day, every day), in addition to online resources. Their support is based on a “resolution” model, and there is no cap on the number of sessions available to staff.

Ulliance is not just there for crisis moments—they have a deep selection of wellness, financial, and life goal supports and trainings. We encourage all staff to utilize their life coaching program, where an Ulliance counselor will support them over a period of time in achieving their defined goals.

Ulliance services are available to all staff and their immediate family. The services are free and confidential. There is no reporting back to Avalon on individual services provided.

Employee Engagement

There are many ways for staff to connect with others across Avalon, including:

  • Affinity Groups, for staff of color who seek support among their peers or for staff who want to become anti-racist allies
  • Equity Action Committee, which aims to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace at Avalon
  • Wellness Committee, which plans activities centered around self-care and wellbeing
  • Regular team and all-staff meetings
  • Employee resource website
  • Weekly Avalon newsletter (“Vuddle Notes”)
  • Broad range of internal training and classes

Avalon Housing is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks applicants from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, as well as historically marginalized groups. This includes but is not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, people who identify as transgender or non-binary, people living with disabilities or mental health conditions, and people with lived experience with homelessness or recovery from a substance use disorder. Avalon also encourages those with criminal histories to apply. Avalon doesn’t request information about criminal histories unless and until an offer of employment is extended. Avalon may exclude someone based on criminal history if we determine that the criminal history is related to or directly conflicts with the responsibilities of the position.

Avalon Housing is dedicated to eliminating racial inequities. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work well with multicultural communities.
